Dr. Kavita Patel, former senior advisor at the White House and currently a nonresident fellow at the Brookings Institution, joins us for “Update - Next Steps to Contain the Coronavirus Disease” for a conversation on the coronavirus crisis, economic and healthcare recovery and the pressing issues facing individuals around the world.
Dr. Kavita Patel is currently a primary care physician in Washington DC. She is also
a nonresident Fellow at the Brookings Institution where she was the managing director of clinical transformation at the Center for Health Policy at Brookings.
Dr. Patel worked in the Obama Administration as the Director of Policy for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement in the White House focusing on health reform, financial regulatory reform, and economic recovery issues. She also served as a senior advisor to Valerie Jarrett. Dr. Patel is an advisor to the Bipartisan Policy Center and a member of Health and Human Services Physician Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee.
Her prior research in healthcare quality and community approaches to mental illness have earned national recognition and she has published numerous papers and book chapters on healthcare reform and health policy. She has testified before Congress several times and she is a frequent guest expert on NPR, CBS, NBC and MSNBC as well as serving on the editorial board of the journal Health Affairs.
